Twenty-four new soldiers have officially joined the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) following their graduation from Basic Military Course 1 of 2025. The milestone ceremony took place on March 12, 2026, at E. T. Willet Park in Nevis, marking the first time such SKNDF training and graduation occurred on the island.
Key Leaders Attend Milestone Event
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Nevis Premier Mark Brantley attended the pass-out parade, where they addressed the graduates and offered congratulations on their achievements. Officials highlighted a pay increase for the recruits, a new feature in the program, alongside the extended seven-month training duration.
Extended Training Overcomes Challenges
The course, originally planned for four months, stretched to seven due to early operational hurdles. Recruits began training on August 1, 2025, and completed it on March 12, 2026. SKNDF instructors delivered comprehensive modules, including foot and rifle drills, land navigation, fieldcraft, minor tactics, skill at arms, first aid, internal security, and physical training.
Standout Performer Recognized
Ozan Huggins earned top honors as the overall best recruit. He also received awards for excellence in fieldcraft and minor tactics, map and land navigation, and most disciplined soldier.
Commander’s Encouragement
Acting SKNDF Commander Major Kayode Sutton addressed the group, motivating them as they prepare to integrate into active service in the weeks ahead.
