The government of St Kitts and Nevis encourages street vendors nationwide to actively maintain clean, safe, and compliant business areas. Officials emphasize ongoing support for vendors while prioritizing public order and health.

Minister’s Appeal in National Assembly

Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Action, and Constituency Empowerment Joyelle Clarke issued the call during a recent National Assembly session. She addressed key challenges including environmental issues, traffic congestion, and public health risks.

The minister promotes partnerships and open dialogue within her ministry. Vendors occupying green spaces without permits receive repeated engagement to highlight risks such as traffic disruptions or environmental damage.

Supportive Measures and Alternatives

In most instances, authorities offer alternative locations to affected vendors. The government adopts a supportive stance, focusing on nationwide engagement rather than strict enforcement. Efforts assist vendors in relocating to approved sites, complete with time and guidance for a smooth transition.

Addressing Waste Disposal Concerns

Minister Clarke spotlighted problematic practices like improper disposal of coconut husks, which foster mosquito breeding and health hazards. She urges vendors to embrace greater personal responsibility to safeguard public well-being.
