Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew Advocates for Equitable Climate Solutions
Berlin, Germany – At the recent Climate Mobility Forum, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis issued a powerful call for climate justice and strengthened international collaboration. The forum, which convened on June 18, 2026, brought together global leaders to deliberate on critical Climate Mobility Principles.
Emphasis on Local Involvement and Fair Burden Sharing
Organized by the Global Centre for Climate Mobility (GCCM) in partnership with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the event aimed to foster greater consensus on climate mobility and adaptation strategies. Prime Minister Drew, addressing fellow leaders from nations including Palau, the Marshall Islands, Honduras, Tuvalu, and the Maldives, stressed the imperative of including local communities in the development of climate solutions.
Dr. Drew articulated that climate change is fundamentally an issue of justice, particularly for small island nations like St. Kitts and Nevis. He highlighted the disproportionate impact faced by those who contribute least to the climate crisis, citing the plight of fishermen losing their livelihoods as a stark example of the severity of the situation. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Caribbean region bears an inequitable burden that demands urgent attention.
A Call for Justice, Not Charity
During his address, Prime Minister Drew stated, “We are not seeking charity, we are not seeking pity. We are seeking justice and partnership, which are fundamental to dealing with these issues.” His presence as the sole leader from the Caribbean underscored the significant role St. Kitts and Nevis continues to play in global climate discussions.
The Prime Minister’s participation reinforced the nation’s dedication to advancing practical, people-centered approaches designed to safeguard livelihoods, enhance resilience, and ensure a sustainable future for upcoming generations. The forum’s discussions focused on how to build greater consensus and implement effective strategies for climate mobility and adaptation worldwide.
