Premier Mark Brantley of Nevis announces that the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) actively pursues a financing partner to advance the long-awaited expansion of Alexandra Hospital.
The project currently pauses due to funding constraints, but Brantley reaffirms the government’s strong commitment during his monthly press conference on April 27.
Turnkey Partnership in Discussions
“The hospital project is on pause, yes,” Brantley stated. “We are ready to proceed, but face a financing gap as previously noted. I remain committed, as does the government. Recently, we met with a new group offering a turnkey solution.”
Brantley describes the prospective partner as an India-based firm with extensive experience constructing hospitals across India and the Caribbean. “They have built facilities throughout India and other Caribbean locations,” he explained. “Active in the region now, they propose a turnkey package that includes financing, construction, and all necessary elements to complete the job.”
Facilitated Introductions and Evaluations
St. Kitts officials connected the NIA with the company, providing contact details. Mahesh Ramani, owner of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, arranged the initial introduction.
Nevis representatives held discussions with the firm’s delegates to assess project fit, though no final agreement emerged. Any partnership would operate as a joint venture, maintaining full government ownership and oversight.
Brantley promises detailed public updates on progress soon.
