Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew announces significant progress on the new Climate-Smart JNF General Hospital in St. Kitts and Nevis. Construction teams have begun geotechnical work on the designated site, preparing a solid foundation with a cemented volcanic layer to ensure stability.
Site Preparation and Location
The project targets a stretch of land following Camps, directly opposite the University of Medicine and Health Sciences. This strategic location supports the hospital’s role in enhancing national healthcare resilience.
Key Technical Confirmations
Engineers from Valued Engineering have submitted a report verifying the site’s suitability. The assessment confirms ongoing basic groundwork and the potential to build a structure capable of withstanding Category 5 or stronger hurricanes.
Prime Minister Drew emphasized that developing this climate-smart facility represents a core administration goal. “The nation must protect itself from the adverse effects of hurricane season,” he stated, highlighting the need for robust national infrastructure.
Alignment with National Agenda
The $200 million hospital forms a cornerstone of the country’s Sustainable Island State Agenda, as noted by the Minister of Health. Since taking office, the Terrance Drew administration has prioritized such upgrades.
In December 2025, the Ministry of Health secured the final certificate from the Development Control Planning Board (DCPB). This approval encompasses complete working drawings for infrastructure, foundations, and MEP systems, enabling smooth construction advancement.
