The Caribbean region kicks off preparations for the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, set to run from June 1 to November 30, 2026. Peak activity typically spans August through October.

Below-Average Season Predicted

Colorado State University forecasts a below-average season, with 13 named storms, six hurricanes, and two major hurricanes reaching Category 3 strength or higher. Experts attribute the subdued activity to El Niño conditions, which disrupt tropical storm formation in the Atlantic.

Authorities confirm this outlook signals less intensity compared to recent years, yet vigilance remains essential across the Caribbean and broader Atlantic basin.

Regional Governments and Partners Mobilize

Stakeholders, including governments and international partners, initiate readiness efforts. High alert status prevails despite the milder forecast to safeguard communities.

U.S. Embassy Boosts Regional Resilience

The United States Embassy in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean launches precautionary outreach as the season approaches. Officials emphasize enhanced strategic preparedness for regional stability.

Caribbean Logistics Hub Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Sarah Nelson states that the U.S. government supports the World Food Programme and partners to bolster rapid disaster response capabilities. Efforts focus on building resilience, fortifying security, and equipping communities to endure storms.
