St. Kitts and Nevis advances its renewable energy goals through a new Implementing Arrangement for the Green Energy Transition Demonstration Project, signed during a technical mission to the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Minister of Public Utilities Konris Maynard and Minister of Environment Joyelle Clarke participated in the signing with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF). The ministers’ visit, hosted by Taiwanese counterparts, marks a key milestone in shifting to sustainable energy sources for the island nation.

Project Focus and Components

The initiative develops a microgrid at the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) Transmission and Distribution facility. It incorporates solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage, and advanced energy management platforms.

Additional elements include grid simulations and technical training to build local expertise. These efforts strengthen capacity for a resilient, modern electricity system.

Implementation and Long-Term Benefits

The Taiwan Technical Mission, led by Alex Lai, collaborates with the nation’s Energy Unit and SKELEC to execute the project. Minister Maynard emphasizes its role in national growth and data generation for programs like SOLARISE.

The partnership prepares the grid for greater distributed solar integration, promoting sustainability across St. Kitts and Nevis.
