The second day of the St. Kitts and Nevis Embassy’s inaugural summer camp in Taiwan concluded with engaging sessions focused on the bilateral relationship between the two nations and St. Kitts and Nevis’s Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA). Held at Ger-Jyh Senior High School in New Taipei City, the camp aims to deepen understanding among participants about key aspects of diplomacy and national development.

Exploring Taiwan’s Role and Diplomatic Ties

Campers were divided into two distinct groups for the day’s activities. The first group, focusing on the theme “Taiwan Can Help,” delved into the robust diplomatic relationship between St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan). This session, facilitated by embassy intern Anssel Lin with assistance from D’Quani Clarke, Yohance Willett, and Alice Huang, provided insights into the historical and ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

A significant part of this session involved understanding the 43 years of diplomatic relations. To solidify their learning, participants were tasked with creating a logo or an infographic. These visual representations were intended to encapsulate their understanding of the partnership and the contributions Taiwan has made. The exercise encouraged creative expression while reinforcing the core message of mutual support and collaboration.

Understanding the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA)

The second group focused on St. Kitts and Nevis’s commitment to sustainable development through its Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA). Embassy intern Ezrah Brandy led this session, supported by Tyrique Jeffers, Howard Liburd, and Jahmarley Riley. Ambassador Donya L. Francis was also present to guide the discussion.

During this segment, the embassy shared detailed updates and progress reports on the SISA’s implementation. The objective was to ensure campers grasped the agenda’s core goals and its critical importance for the nation’s future. The presentation highlighted how SISA addresses multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing small island developing states.

The Seven Pillars of SISA

The Sustainable Island State Agenda is built upon seven foundational pillars, designed to guide the Federation towards a resilient and prosperous future:

  • Energy Transition: Shifting towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
  • Water Security: Ensuring reliable access to safe and sufficient water resources.
  • Food and Nutrition Security: Promoting local food production and access to healthy diets.
  • Sustainable Industries: Developing economic sectors that are environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.
  • Sustainable Settlements: Creating resilient and livable communities.
  • Circular Economy: Minimizing waste and maximizing resource utilization through reuse and recycling.
  • Health and Social Protection: Enhancing public health systems and social safety nets.

Following the presentation on SISA, campers in this group were assigned a creative task: to draw a picture illustrating their understanding of the agenda. Their artwork was to reflect their observations on its various components. Reports indicate that the campers particularly gravitated towards depicting the pillars of Energy Transition, Circular Economy, and Water Security in their drawings, suggesting these areas resonated strongly with them.

Camp Conclusion and Social Media Engagement

The Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis to Taiwan shared highlights from the second day’s activities on its official social media channels, offering a glimpse into the educational and interactive experiences provided to the young participants. The camp is scheduled to conclude on Friday, August 8, 2026, with further activities planned to round off the week-long program.

This initiative underscores the embassy’s commitment to fostering international understanding and educating the next generation about critical global and national development agendas. The blend of diplomatic education and focus on sustainability aims to equip campers with valuable knowledge and perspectives.
