Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis participated as a special guest in Ghana’s 69th Independence Day Celebration on March 6, 2026, during his four-day state visit.

Event Highlights and Attendees

The festivities united government officials, diplomatic corps members, military representatives, students, and citizens from across Ghana, along with Dr. Drew’s delegation. Ghana marked 69 years of independence from British rule in 1957, honoring decades of national progress.

Dr. Drew’s presence underscored strengthening diplomatic relations between St. Kitts and Nevis and Ghana.

Ceremonial Proceedings

The program featured a ceremonial parade, official speeches, patriotic displays, and cultural performances. Leaders from traditional, Muslim, and Christian communities offered prayers, followed by musical performances, poetry recitals, and presentations by schoolchildren. The events included a parade inspection and the President lighting the perpetual flame.

Symbolic Gestures Strengthen Ties

The St. Kitts and Nevis flag flew prominently at Jubilee House throughout the celebrations, a deeply symbolic honor coinciding with the Prime Minister’s attendance.

Dr. Terrance Drew stated, “This is a very meaningful day for the two nations and serves as a reminder of the enduring connection between the Caribbean and Africa.”
