The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities has launched the SOLARISE and DRIVE programmes to advance energy security and sustainability across St Kitts and Nevis.
These national initiatives, introduced by the Energy Unit, represent a key milestone in reshaping the federation’s energy and transportation sectors. Officials announced the programmes in April 2026.
SOLARISE: Boosting Rooftop Solar Adoption
Developed in partnership with St Kitts Electricity Company Ltd, SOLARISE promotes widespread installation of rooftop solar systems. Participating households receive energy credits through a net billing system, accelerating renewable energy uptake and strengthening overall energy resilience nationwide.
DRIVE: Electrifying Roadways
The DRIVE programme, or Decarbonized Roadway Initiative for Vehicle Electrification, supports the shift to electric vehicles (EVs). It fosters EV adoption and builds essential charging infrastructure for a cleaner transportation network.
As part of this effort, the government reduces import duties on fully electric vehicles aged 0-4 years from 45% to 10%, effective May 1, 2026.
