The Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis to Taiwan donated 10 books authored by local writers to Tainan City, Basseterre’s sister city, during a ceremony on March 24, 2026.

Diplomatic Gesture Strengthens Cultural Bonds

Ambassador Donya Lynex Francis personally handed the books to Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che, who accepted them on behalf of the city government. This initiative aims to foster deeper connections between the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and Tainan by sharing insights into the nation’s culture, history, and popular children’s stories.

“These books will deepen connections between the people of both nations,” Ambassador Francis stated at the event.

Tangible Symbol of Sister-City Pact

The donation serves as a tangible expression of the sister-city agreement signed between Basseterre and Tainan last November. The books, now part of the Tainan Public Library System, feature works by authors including Carol Ottley-Mitchell, Caryl Phillips, Coryn Anaya Clarke, Donya L. Francis, Kayrisa Kelly, and Vanessa L. Webbe.

In reciprocation, Mayor Huang Wei-che presented two books to the embassy and extended an invitation for Ambassador Francis and his team to host a cultural display at Tainan City Hall.
