Sir Kennedy Simmonds, the first Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, marked his 90th birthday on April 12, 2026. The nation celebrates this milestone for its only living National Hero.

Leadership Legacy

Sir Simmonds served as Premier from 1980 to 1983 before becoming the inaugural Prime Minister from 1983 to 1995. He steered the twin-island nation through its early years of independence, transitioning from colonial status to sovereignty. His tenure stands as a pivotal chapter in the country’s history.

National Hero Recognition

In 2015, Sir Simmonds received the title of National Hero for his contributions to public service and nation-building. He remains the sole living recipient of this honor, with his visionary leadership continuing to shape the nation’s development.

Nationwide Celebrations

People across St Kitts and Nevis joined in commemorating the occasion. The government extended warm wishes to the esteemed leader.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew shared greetings on social media. Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and former Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, now Minister of Foreign Affairs, also paid tribute.
