Rhapsody of the Seas Initiates Off-Season Cruise Calls, Bolstering Summer Tourism

A significant development in the region’s tourism landscape occurred on Tuesday with the maiden off-season arrival of the cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas. This marks the beginning of a series of nine scheduled calls to the island between June and September 2026, a period traditionally characterized by lower tourist numbers and consequently, reduced economic activity for local businesses.

For several years, national administration efforts have focused on counteracting this seasonal slump. Strategic initiatives, including a diverse range of summer events such as music festivals and restaurant weeks, are being implemented to enhance the island’s appeal to a global audience and stimulate demand year-round.

Cruise Tourism Resilience Highlighted

The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) emphasized that the Rhapsody of the Seas’ visit to Port Zante underscores the sustained presence and crucial role of cruise tourism, even during the conventional off-peak season. Officials expressed considerable satisfaction with the ship’s arrival during this period, viewing it as a substantial achievement for the nation’s tourism sector and a clear indicator of the island’s ongoing growth.

The Rhapsody of the Seas docked after arriving from Antigua, carrying approximately 2,360 passengers. The vessel departed later in the afternoon, with Frederiksted, St. Croix, as its next destination.

Year-Round Destination Strategy

“The vessel’s arrival marks the first of nine scheduled calls by Rhapsody of the Seas between June and September 2026,” stated a SCASPA representative. The authority also announced projections of around 20 cruise ship calls to St. Kitts’ Port Zante during the summer months. This influx is expected to solidify St. Kitts and Nevis’s reputation as a premier year-round cruise destination, simultaneously supporting visitor experiences, bolstering local enterprises, and driving economic activity.

Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that visitors perceive the island as an attractive travel choice for both summer and winter seasons, actively working to capture a consistent flow of tourists throughout the year.
