Prime Minister Drew Takes Authorized Motion Over Defamatory Publication

Prime Minister Drew Takes Authorized Motion Over Defamatory Publication

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, April 11, 2025 (PMO) — The Prime Minister’s Workplace, St. Kitts and Nevis confirms that Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has initiated authorized motion in response to a publication by Ms. Annette Frank of grave and false allegations towards him. This motion stresses the gravity with which the Prime Minister views false and malicious assaults on his private popularity, and that of Prime Minister. It additionally displays a dedication to upholding the reputations of individuals from the dissemination of baseless and false assaults, and the responsibility of individuals to behave responsibly earlier than publishing or republishing false allegations of misconduct.

Appearing on the Prime Minister’s directions, his Counsel issued a proper letter to Ms. Frank concerning the false and malicious statements contained in a publish revealed on March 07, 2025. The letter, dated April 07 2025, describes the publication as “scandalous, completely false and defamatory” in nature, and additional asserts that the publication was made “with clear malice to be able to trigger reputational injury.”

The Prime Minister considers the matter of utmost seriousness and has not taken this step flippantly. 

The letter, addressed via authorized illustration, calls for that Ms. Frank:

  • Unequivocally retract the mentioned publication from all media platforms, together with social media platforms,
  • Present a public apology to the Prime Minister,
  • Pay a sum of EC$500,000.00 to compensate the Prime Minister for injury and misery,
  • Pay EC$50,000.00 in authorized prices, and
  • An endeavor to not repeat or republish any such defamatory allegations.

The letter warns Ms. Frank: “We stay up for listening to from you as quickly as doable, however in any occasion no later than ten (10) days from the date of this letter. Within the absence of a speedy and constructive response to this letter inside the time specified, the Hon. Prime Minister may have no selection however to subject proceedings for defamation.”

This authorized response alerts that the Prime Minister will vigorously defend his integrity and won’t enable malicious publication of falsehoods to go unchallenged.

The Prime Minister reaffirms his dedication to freedom of expression and press freedom, however attracts a transparent line when such freedoms are weaponized to publish or republish lies and misinformation particularly when calculated to hurt his popularity.
