Leaders of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) in St. Kitts and Nevis held a press conference on March 19, 2026, to discuss key national issues. This marks the second such event organized by the opposition party to engage the public on recent developments.

Economic Concerns Raised

PLP leaders voiced significant worries about the nation’s economic situation. Party Leader Dr. Timothy Harris referenced an IMF report published earlier this year to underscore these challenges.

Criticism of Government Delegation

The opposition expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew’s announcement of a 100-person delegation to Nigeria and other nations across five continents. PLP Chairperson Wendy Phipps called for greater clarity on the trip’s details and purpose.

Geopolitical Tensions and Fuel Prices

Leaders highlighted the impact of Middle East tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States on St. Kitts and Nevis. They warned of rising energy and fuel prices in the coming weeks. Wendy Phipps noted that these increases could affect the island nation significantly.

Calls for Action on Daily Issues

Other PLP members, including Deputy Leader Damien Lawrence, urged the government to prioritize everyday concerns such as water availability. The two-hour event provided a platform for the opposition to outline their positions on these pressing matters.
