Residents of Nevis are pressing the Ministry of Agriculture under the Nevis Island Administration to act swiftly against the growing threat posed by green monkeys to local food production.
Call for a Monkey Conference
Community members advocate for a dedicated conference to safeguard crops and ensure food security. They emphasize the need for strong measures, including regular updates on the administration’s efforts to protect agricultural yields.
Ron Daniel’s Urgent Appeal
Nevis resident Ron Daniel voiced these concerns in a Facebook post on Monday, directly addressing Randy Elliott, Rhosyll Jeffers, and Ministry officials. He stressed that achieving food security requires enabling ordinary citizens to cultivate their own produce without interference.
Daniel called for officials to attend the proposed conference and outline practical steps residents can take to defend against green monkeys. He also urged the Ministry to detail support options for resolving the issue.
“It’s literally getting unbearable now as we have to sacrifice all of our food to these monkeys among us. We are defenseless in our own land. Please help,” Daniel added.
Impact on Food Security
Green monkeys have emerged as a major nuisance, ravaging and spoiling crops across the island. This disruption poses a significant barrier to Nevis’s food production goals, leaving farmers vulnerable in their efforts to sustain local agriculture.
