Nevis Culturama 52 Launched, Celebrating Heritage and Future Growth
The highly anticipated Nevis Culturama 52 festival has officially commenced, promising a vibrant two-week celebration of Nevisian culture and heritage. The festivities, themed “Our Heritage Proud and True: Culturama 52,” will run from July 23 to August 4 at the Cultural Village in Charlestown, following its official launch on Thursday evening at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park.
Focus on Improvement and Legacy
Swaine Evelyn, Chairman of the Culturama Committee, addressed attendees at the launch ceremony, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to building upon the transformation initiated during the previous year’s festival. Evelyn expressed gratitude for serving as chairman for a second consecutive year and highlighted the festival’s focus on improvement and growth, setting the stage for the event’s 55th anniversary in 2029.
Recognizing Cultural Contributions
During the launch, Minister of Culture, Eric Evelyn, commended the collaborative efforts involved in organizing the festival. He congratulated Francina Morton, whose slogan was selected as the official theme for Culturama 52. Bridget Hunkins was honored as the patron for this year’s event, a recognition Minister Evelyn noted was well-deserved given Hunkins’ decades of service to culture and the community since 1974.
Diverse Lineup of Events
The festival’s comprehensive lineup was unveiled, with official events beginning on July 23 at the Nedacs Cultural Complex. Key events include the National Bank, Ms Culture Swimmer and Mr. Kool Contest on July 24, and the Republic Bank Mr & Miss Talented Youth Pageant on July 26. Fringe activities are scheduled to take place throughout July and early August, from July 17 to August 3.
Experiences for All Attendees
Attendees can anticipate a rich array of cultural experiences during the two-week festival. Highlights include a night of poetry, Bae Watch, the Culturama Poker Run, Culturama Track & Field games, Herbert’s Beach Affair, and the Bank of Nevis Ms Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant. Preparations for Culturama 52’s core activities commenced on June 12, with further exciting events planned, such as the National Bank Culturama 52 Art, Craft & Food Fair, the National Bank Soca Monarch Finals, the Junior Calypso Monarch, and the Culturama 53 Grand Street Parade and Last Lap.
