Ministry Unveils Ambitious Development Report
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities has released a comprehensive Progress Report detailing significant advancements across key service sectors. The findings were shared during a public press conference and panel discussion held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the CUNA Conference Room in Basseterre.
Focus on Public Well-being and Service Enhancement
Led by Konris Maynard, the Minister of Energy & Utilities, Domestic Transport, Information Communication and Technology, and Post, the event provided an in-depth look at projects under the ministry’s purview. Minister Maynard emphasized the government’s active commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens. “At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: government must improve the quality of life of the people, that is our mission whether through water, energy, roads ICT, or public services that is our mission,” Maynard stated.
The press conference, themed “Building Smarter, Powering Better, Connecting Everyone,” was live-streamed across multiple platforms to ensure broad public access. Senior officials from various departments and agencies within the ministry also participated, offering expert insights into their respective areas.
Water Security Initiatives Take Center Stage
A primary focus for the current year is water security. The St. Kitts Water Services Department announced substantial investments in the Basseterre Desalination Plant, along with advancements in groundwater development and the installation of new pipelines. Efforts are also actively underway to enhance water supply in St. Peter’s.
Energy Sector Advances and Renewable Focus
The energy sector updates included significant strides in the transition to renewable energy, marked by the launch of the SOLARISE and DRIVE initiatives. St. Kitts Electricity Co. Ltd. presented a proposed 50-megawatt solar photovoltaic project with integrated battery storage. Additional measures to reduce dependence on fossil fuels include a planned grid upgrade at the quarry.
Infrastructure Development and Reconstruction Projects
Progress in public infrastructure was also highlighted, with updates on successfully completed projects and the ongoing work within the Public Works Department. These include road rehabilitation, new road construction, the reconstruction of the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School, and the development of the Lime Kiln Playfield Pavilion.
Digital Transformation and Postal Service Improvements
In the realm of digital transformation and postal services, the ministry detailed improved initiatives in national planning and emergency response. Updates were also provided on enhancements to public service delivery, reflecting a commitment to modernizing government operations.
Officials from the ministry concluded by stating that the progress report underscores the government and ministry’s ongoing dedication to building a stronger, improved, and more resilient St. Kitts and Nevis for the public.
