Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis received high praise for his proactive chairmanship of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) during the opening ceremony of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government.

Active and Productive Tenure

CARICOM Secretary General Carla Barnett highlighted the dynamic start to Dr. Drew’s leadership, noting it began amid regional emergencies in early January. She commended his recent in-person visits to fellow CARICOM leaders as evidence of his commitment to fostering regional unity and collaboration.

“The tone for his tenure has been very active and productive,” Barnett stated, emphasizing Dr. Drew’s capacity for decisive action and results-oriented efforts within the organization.

Impressive Hosting by St. Kitts and Nevis

Barnett expressed admiration for St. Kitts and Nevis, the region’s smallest island nation, for expertly organizing the landmark 50th meeting. She extended thanks to the Prime Minister and his team for the warm welcome extended to regional heads of government.

The Secretary General voiced confidence that Dr. Drew will advance CARICOM’s collective interests moving forward.

Summit Focus and Conclusion

Hosted under the theme “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM,” the summit brings together regional leaders, international partners, and diplomatic stakeholders. Key discussions cover economic resilience, climate action, regional solidarity, food security, energy transition, and related priorities.

The meeting wraps up on Friday, February 27, 2026, with a press conference featuring Dr. Terrance Drew and other CARICOM leaders.
