A drone attack in the Black Sea on Friday, June 19, 2026, has resulted in the death of one crew member and injuries to five others. The incident involved two vessels, one flying the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis and another flagged by Panama, as they departed an Ukrainian port.

The St. Kitts and Nevis-flagged vessel sustained damage, with three crew members suffering minor injuries. The Panamanian-flagged ship experienced a more severe impact, leading to one fatality and two additional crew members being wounded.
Ukrainian naval forces are actively engaged in evacuating the individuals affected by the strikes. Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Development of Communities and Territories, conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased and shared details of the incident via Telegram.

Ukrainian officials assert that these attacks are indicative of Russia’s continued efforts to disrupt crucial Black Sea trade routes, with significant consequences for the global food supply system. “This is yet another proof that Russia is waging a war against freedom of navigation, international trade, and global food security,” officials stated.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, characterized the incident as an act of terrorism, urging the international community not to normalize such events, particularly given the loss of life and injuries sustained.
Escalation of Naval Incidents
Reports suggest a recent increase in Russian attacks targeting commercial shipping and seafarers. In the past month, two cargo ships near Odesa were attacked on June 10. Prior to that, three other vessels, including a Chinese ship, were damaged by Russian drones last month.
