Thirty-one aspiring educators have commenced a vital two-week training program aimed at enhancing their skills and preparedness for the classroom. The 2026 Prospective Teachers Course, themed “Beyond the Blackboard: Reaching Every Learner,” officially began on Monday, June 15, 2026, with an opening ceremony held at Jessup’s Community Centre in Nevis.
Focus on Foundational Excellence
Officials from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth emphasized that the course is designed to build a strong foundation for each participant before they enter professional teaching environments. The program will delve into foundational knowledge, essential skills, and professional values crucial for effective classroom management and student engagement.

Troy Liburd, the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, addressed the 31 participants, urging them to approach the training with dedication and professionalism. He highlighted their role as the future of the island and underscored their significant responsibilities within the education sector. “As future educators, you have the unique responsibility of shaping minds, inspiring dreams, and helping every learner realize his or her full potential,” Minister Liburd stated.
