The St. Kitts and Nevis Medical Cannabis Authority (SKNMCA) has initiated a nationwide campaign focused on promoting the responsible and lawful engagement with cannabis across the Federation. Launched on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the “Responsible Use Campaign” aims to provide comprehensive education to the public regarding the safe and legal aspects of cannabis.

Key Objectives and Pillars of the Campaign

Nadiv Mills, Chief Executive Officer of the SKNMCA, officially introduced the initiative during an appearance on ZIZ Radio’s morning show with G-Cue. Mills emphasized the organization’s commitment to public education, stating, “It is our responsibility to educate people about Cannabis.” He highlighted the importance of individuals understanding how to interact with cannabis legally and safely. Furthermore, Mills stressed that anyone involved in the cannabis sector bears a duty to perform their roles correctly and avoid risks to themselves and others. “Anyone who interacts with cannabis has a responsibility to themselves and to the public to do so safely and lawfully,” he asserted.

The Responsible Use Campaign is structured around four core pillars designed to align with the SKNMCA’s vision of promoting both safe and legal practices. These pillars are:

  • Knowing Your Rights: Understanding legal frameworks and individual entitlements.
  • Cannabinoid Science: Educating on the scientific aspects of cannabis.
  • Medical Oversight and Protection of Vulnerable Populations: Ensuring appropriate medical guidance and safeguarding at-risk groups.
  • Moderation and Hygiene: Promoting healthy consumption habits and cleanliness.

Public Awareness and Future Discussions

The SKNMCA intends to significantly bolster public awareness and foster responsible behavior through this campaign. A key focus will be on protecting young people and informing the broader community about the responsible consumption of cannabis.

In the coming weeks, the SKNMCA plans to host a series of thematic discussions. These sessions will commence with an exploration of citizens’ rights and responsibilities under the law, followed by comprehensive coverage of various cannabis-related topics. These will include hygiene considerations, scientific insights, health implications, and importantly, broader social responsibilities.

Clearing Misconceptions and Guiding the Public

During his radio appearance, Nadiv Mills underscored the significance of the Cannabis Act 2020. He explained that a primary objective of the campaign is to address and dispel existing doubts and rumors surrounding cannabis on the islands. “The Responsible Use Campaign is about clearing up misconceptions and guiding our people on a safe and legal path,” Mills stated. “This is more about public health, community respect and protecting our future.”
