The Ministry of Health has announced the completion of digitisation at JNF General Hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department, describing the achievement as a major step forward for the country’s healthcare sector.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also highlighted the department’s transition during his November Roundtable.
Officials said the move has improved hospital efficiency, supported clinical decision-making and strengthened the management of patient records.
Implemented through the National Digital Health Information System (NDHIS), the digital transition marks an important stage in the transformation of healthcare in St. Kitts and Nevis. It also supports the government’s ambition to establish a fully integrated, paperless health system.
“This achievement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals, information technology teams, and key partners, including the St. Kitts and Nevis Robotics Association, under the leadership of Dr. Ricardo Neil, whose expertise and commitment have been instrumental in driving digital innovation within the health sector,” the Ministry of Health said.
The ministry said the next phase of implementation will focus on the Laboratory and Radiology Departments as efforts continue to modernise healthcare delivery across the federation.
Dr Drew, who also serves as Minister of Health, announced that he will lead his ministerial colleagues and senior Ministry of Health officials on a tour of the A&E Department. The visit will allow them to observe firsthand the digital workflows being used to transform patient care.
The ministry said the achievement reflects the country’s commitment to using technology to create a more efficient, responsive and patient-centred healthcare system for all citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.
