Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew addressed the public during the November edition of the Prime Minister’s Roundtable, speaking with members of the media on November 6, 2026.
The discussion covered several national issues, including the cost of living and high prices, with the Prime Minister devoting considerable attention to healthcare.
Dr Drew outlined investments made by the government during its time in office. Among the initiatives he highlighted was the Children’s Medical Fund.
Funded through the Office of the Prime Minister, the programme was announced within his first week of taking office.
During the roundtable, Dr Drew explained that the fund aims to ensure parents from vulnerable households do not have to worry about the affordability of emergency medical care for their children.
He said more than 150 children have received assistance to access emergency treatment overseas since the programme began. He also highlighted the government’s procurement of five new ambulances.
According to the Prime Minister, approximately 1.7 million dollars was spent on the vehicles. He said the investment addressed longstanding ambulance availability problems that had affected the reliability of services.
Dr Drew also pointed to repairs to the roof of JNF General Hospital, which he said were carried out immediately after his administration took office.
He further stated that JNF now has 26 specialists under the Labour administration, describing that figure as the highest number in the country’s history.
The Prime Minister added that the Ministry of Health had invested more than 1 million dollars in equipment for the eye clinic at JNF General Hospital. He said the clinic is now equipped to perform surgeries at the hospital.
