St. Kitts and Nevis held its inaugural Cabinet-wide press conference of 2026 on March 30 to assess first-quarter initiatives. Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew emphasized the administration’s commitment to people-centered development, prioritizing sustainability, global partnerships, and substantial infrastructure investments.

Advancements in Water Security

The government has allocated tens of millions of dollars to water infrastructure, ensuring access across all communities. Key efforts include the construction and recent commissioning of a desalination plant, alongside testing and drilling at multiple groundwater sites. These measures advance national development goals.

Transportation and Infrastructure Upgrades

Prime Minister Drew announced investments exceeding $80 million in road rehabilitation projects. These initiatives enhance connectivity between the twin islands, boost road safety, and improve transportation efficiency. Ongoing commitments also support housing construction, education facilities, and broader infrastructure, elevating community living standards.

Sustainable Island State Agenda

All projects align with the Sustainable Island State Agenda, which promotes national growth through renewable energy, long-term resilience, and responsible resource management.

International Engagements and Achievements

Dr. Drew highlighted the success of the 50th CARICOM Heads of Government meeting, fostering greater regional unity in the Caribbean.

The second Afro-Caribbean Investment Summit in Abuja, Nigeria, from March 23 to 28, expanded the nation’s global presence. Outcomes include a memorandum of understanding for international film production in June 2026 and securing US$2 billion in funding for the creative sector, benefiting local artists.

In a bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Drew and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu discussed enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange. President Tinubu plans to appoint a special envoy to St. Kitts and Nevis, marking a significant step in bilateral relations.
