St. Kitts and Nevis ramps up preparations for the 50th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government, with regional leaders beginning to arrive just a day before the opening ceremony.

Key Arrivals and Welcomes

The first leader to touch down in Basseterre was Suriname’s President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons. Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley greeted her at Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, where a Guard of Honor stood ready.

Numerous dignitaries from across the Caribbean region are expected, including Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre. Both leaders have confirmed their attendance. Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Farley Augustine will also join the proceedings.

International Participation

Representatives from the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Commonwealth, and Afreximbank are set to participate in the four-day event. Additional national leaders, prime ministers, and officials continue to arrive throughout the day.

Event Schedule and Agenda

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister confirms that over 95% of CARICOM members plan to attend. The opening ceremony kicks off on Tuesday, February 24, with substantive discussions following immediately.

Sessions run through February 27, focusing on regional cooperation, collaboration, and development initiatives to strengthen Caribbean unity.
