The Ministry of Sustainable Development leads preparations for St. Kitts and Nevis’ second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This follows the nation’s first VNR, presented under the current administration, which earned positive feedback from the United Nations.
Commitment to Regular SDG Progress Reviews
Officials emphasize the administration’s dedication to routine assessments, aligning with recommendations for at least two VNRs during the 2016-2030 period. While many countries submit only one, St. Kitts and Nevis completes its second within five years, supporting the Sustainable Island State Agenda.
VNRs provide a voluntary platform for nations to report progress and challenges toward the UN SDGs from 2015 to 2030. The inaugural review occurred at the UN High-Level Political Forum in July 2023. The upcoming submission takes place in July 2026.
Recent Preparatory Efforts
Prior to the 2026 VNR, the nation conducted a Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in 2025, highlighting Nevis’ contributions to the SDGs.
Stakeholder engagement sessions occurred across both islands from March 23 to 27, involving public sector representatives, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations. These consultations receive support from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC) and consultant Dr. Shivonne Peters.
