Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, recently spoke on Freedom FM’s Issues SKN radio show, sharing updates on key national initiatives during his monthly appearance.
REAP Initiative Launches with Major Investment
The Prime Minister highlighted the REAP Initiative, a new agriculture insurance program. The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has allocated $1 million to insure all registered farmers against natural disasters such as hurricanes, storms, and droughts. Launched on Tuesday ahead of the radio show, this historic program offers unprecedented protection and support to the nation’s agricultural sector.
Greenhouse Village Boosts Food Security
Dr. Drew also discussed the ongoing Greenhouse Village project, a vital development aimed at enhancing food security across St. Kitts and Nevis. This initiative promises to strengthen the agriculture sector by promoting sustainable production.
Basseterre High School Construction Advances
Updates on Basseterre High School construction show active progress at the site. Dr. Drew emphasized that a locally registered and owned company handles the project. The firm employs innovative technology to prefabricate foundational elements, which are then shipped to St. Kitts and Nevis for assembly.
He addressed rumors about funds flowing to Barbados, clarifying that while some foundational work occurs there, significant local employment already supports earthworks, heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and site security. The Prime Minister stressed the goal of swift completion, targeting 18 to 24 months for the full project.
Youth Economic Empowerment Bureau Unveiled
Dr. Drew announced the forthcoming Youth Economic Empowerment Bureau, designed to create business and economic opportunities for young people in St. Kitts and Nevis.
