Seven talented swimmers from St. Kitts and Nevis are set to make their mark at the 30th Goodwill Swimming Championships, scheduled to take place from August 14th to 16th, 2026. This significant international competition will be hosted in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, at the National Aquatic Centre. For the first time in its history, the St. Kitts-Nevis Aquatic Federation (SKNAF) will have its own national team competing in this prestigious event.

A Historic Debut for St. Kitts & Nevis

The announcement of the national team’s participation marks a pivotal moment for aquatic sports in St. Kitts and Nevis. The SKNAF expressed immense pride in this milestone, stating, “For the first time ever, the St. Kitts & Nevis Aquatics Federation (SKNAF) will be represented at the Goodwill Swimming Championships.” This debut signifies a growing commitment to developing and showcasing the nation’s swimming talent on a regional stage. The team’s departure for Trinidad and Tobago was confirmed, with the federation sharing, “Our National Swim Team is heading to Trinidad & Tobago for the 30th Goodwill Swimming Championships taking place 14-16 August 2026 at the National Aquatics Centre in Couva.”

The Competitors and Categories

The selected contingent of seven swimmers will compete across various age groups, demonstrating the breadth of talent emerging from the federation. The athletes and their respective categories are:

  • Boys 9-10: Gaj Leonce, Rhaejaan Jacobs
  • Boys 11-12: Valentino Esposito, Teadrian Tross, Saulo Sahely, Greyson Burrell
  • Girls 15-17: Jazzelle Connor

This lineup features a mix of emerging talents and promising young athletes, all eager to gain valuable international experience and bring honor to their nation. The Goodwill Swimming Championships provide a crucial platform for these swimmers to test their skills against competitors from across the Caribbean.

Leadership and Support Staff

Guiding the national team will be Head Coach and Team Manager Kyle McEachnie, whose expertise is expected to be invaluable. He will be supported by Annelise Leibbrandt, who will serve as Assistant Coach and Chaperone, ensuring the team’s well-being and operational efficiency throughout the competition.

A Note on Greyson Burrell’s Participation

While Greyson Burrell was named as part of the national team for the Boys 11-12 category, the SKNAF announced that he will unfortunately be unable to compete due to unforeseen circumstances. The federation acknowledged his selection and expressed their continued support, stating, “Greyson Burrell was selected to the National Team but will unfortunately be unable to compete due to unforeseen circumstances.” Despite his absence from the competition, his inclusion in the squad highlights his potential and the recognition he has earned.

Context of the Goodwill Swimming Championships

The Goodwill Swimming Championships have a long-standing tradition, with this year marking its 30th anniversary. This event serves as a vital developmental competition for young swimmers in the Caribbean, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition. Last year, the championships were held in Barbados at the Aquatic Centre in Wildey, Bridgetown, from August 15th to 17th, 2025, drawing participation from numerous regional nations.

Looking Ahead for St. Kitts & Nevis Swimming

The participation of a national team from St. Kitts and Nevis in the 30th Goodwill Swimming Championships is more than just a single event; it represents a significant step forward for the sport within the country. The experience gained by these young athletes will be invaluable as they continue their swimming journeys. The SKNAF’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for international competition is evident in this historic debut. As the swimmers prepare to compete, the nation watches with pride, anticipating strong performances and the continued growth of swimming in St. Kitts and Nevis.
