JNF Hospital Prepares to Welcome Patients Back to Refurbished Private Ward
The Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital is poised to reopen its Private Ward, marking the end of several years of closure to the public. This ward, previously utilized as a dedicated isolation and treatment facility for COVID-19 patients at the pandemic’s peak, has undergone extensive refurbishment since its closure for general use in June 2022.
Extensive Upgrades Underway
Hospital management has confirmed that significant structural remediation, including comprehensive roofing repairs, has been completed. Interior work involved a full repainting of all spaces and professional mold remediation, ensuring the ward adheres to the highest environmental health standards. Fifteen individual rooms within the ward have been refurbished and equipped with modern furnishings and fittings.
The ambitious renovation project has spanned over a year, overseen by Lindsey Maynard, Director of Operations and Acting Director of Health Institutions at JNF General Hospital.
Addressing Public Concerns Over Safety
Officials acknowledge that the public may have concerns regarding the ward’s previous role as a COVID-19 isolation area. However, the Ministry of Health has provided assurances that rigorous safety protocols have been maintained. Since its closure in 2022, the Private Ward has undergone professional deep cleaning on a quarterly basis.
Furthermore, the Infection Control Team has conducted comprehensive environmental swabbing of the ward every three months. These regular tests have consistently yielded negative results, confirming the ward’s safety for public use. The Ministry emphasized that the ward has continuously met and continues to meet the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
Ministerial Visit Underscores Progress
Dr. Terrance Drew, the Minister of Health, recently visited the ward to review the progress of the refurbishment. During his visit, he was briefed on the imminent reopening. While a specific opening date has not yet been announced, the proximity of the ward’s readiness for public access was highlighted.
The reopening of the Private Ward is expected to enhance patient care services at JNF General Hospital, providing much-needed capacity and improved facilities.
