Local Athletes Selected for International Sailing Clinic and Regatta

Nickahail Rogers, acting as coach, and sailor Elijah Walters are currently representing St. Kitts and Nevis at the World Sailing Inclusive Development Programme Clinic and Regatta. The prestigious event is being held at the National Sailing Academy in English Harbour, Antigua, and runs from Sunday, June 21st to Saturday, June 27th, 2026.

The participation of this duo was officially announced by the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association, in collaboration with the St. Kitts Yacht Club and the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Centre. Rogers and Walters departed the federation on June 21st to join a diverse group of sailors and coaches from across the Caribbean region. Their week-long itinerary includes intensive training, competitive racing, and various educational activities designed to foster growth in the sport.

Objective of the World Sailing Programme

The World Sailing Inclusive Development Programme Clinic and Regatta was initiated by World Sailing in partnership with the National Sailing Academy of Antigua and Barbuda. A primary objective of this program is to significantly boost participation levels in sailing competitions and to establish robust development pathways for both aspiring sailors and their coaches.

Officials from St. Kitts and Nevis have highlighted that the nation’s involvement in this program underscores the ongoing commitment of the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association to broaden sailing opportunities throughout the federation. The program also offers participants a valuable platform to acquire specialized training, expert coaching, and crucial competitive experience.

Enhancing Local Sailing Development

It is anticipated that the knowledge and experience gained by Rogers and Walters during this international clinic and regatta will directly contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of local programs delivered by the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association. This, in turn, will bolster support for sailing communities across the entire Federation.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association has expressed considerable pride in seeing the federation represented on this international stage. The organization emphasized its dedication to leveraging this opportunity to further develop sailing as a prominent sport within St. Kitts and Nevis. Their overarching vision includes making sailing an inclusive and accessible activity for all individuals.
