Nation’s Young Athletes Excel at International Olympic Academy Program
Two promising young individuals from St. Kitts and Nevis, Azariah Vanterpool and Shakquan Hodge, have successfully concluded their participation in the prestigious 66th International Session of Young Olympic Ambassadors. The intensive two-week program, held from June 6 to 18, took place across the historically rich cities of Athens and Ancient Olympia in Greece.
Organized by the International Olympic Academy, this year’s session was centered around the compelling theme, “Championing Inclusion, Integrity and Responsibility: Building a Safe and Fair Future for Every Athlete.” The initiative aims to foster a new generation of leaders dedicated to upholding the core values of the Olympic movement.
Key Learnings and Global Representation
Officials from the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee expressed immense pride in Vanterpool and Hodge’s achievements. In a statement shared online, the committee lauded their successful representation of the federation on a global stage. “We are incredibly proud of how well you both represented the federation on the World Stage,” the statement read.
The program equips participants with more than just national representation; it provides them with invaluable knowledge and experience designed to enhance the management and strategic direction of the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee. Participants are expected to return home with “invaluable insights, global networks, and fresh strategies to champion inclusion and safe sport right here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Comprehensive Curriculum and Cultural Exchange
During their time in Greece, Vanterpool and Hodge delved into critical sports-related topics. Their studies included areas such as sports rules and athlete performance, dual-career support and education for athletes, fostering safe sport environments, and upholding athlete integrity and welfare. These sessions were led by esteemed international Olympic specialists and professors.
Beyond academic pursuits, the young ambassadors actively engaged in cross-cultural workshops, participated in the 5th annual ‘Olympic Day Run,’ and competed in sports tournaments. They also played a vital role in showcasing the vibrant culture of Kittitian and Nevisian heritage during international food festivals and cultural social evenings.
