Historic NCAA Achievement for St. Kitts and Nevis Athlete

St. Kitts and Nevis has a new sporting hero in Kya Crooke, who achieved a significant milestone by securing a bronze medal in the high jump at the NCAA Division 1 Championship. Crooke’s impressive performance saw her clear a height of 1.90 meters, earning her third place in the prestigious event.

Championship Details and Crooke’s Performance

The NCAA Division 1 Championship, a four-day spectacle running from Wednesday, June 10th to Saturday, June 13th, 2026, took place at the iconic Haywards Field in Eugene, Oregon. The final day of the championships, Saturday, June 13th, was when Crooke made her mark. Representing the University of Arizona Wildcards, Crooke, a freshman jumper, competed as an American track and field athlete.

Roots and Representation

Crooke, who originally hails from Fishers, Indiana, carries strong ties to St. Kitts and Nevis, with her father originating from the twin-island nation. During her competition, she proudly displayed her heritage by wearing calf sleeves inspired by the twin islands alongside her United States calf sleeves, a symbolic representation of her dual identity on the national sports stage.

National Pride and Recognition

The St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics Organisation officially acknowledged Crooke’s achievement, sharing the news and a celebratory image on their social media platforms. The organization lauded her accomplishment, stating, “History has been made as Kya Crooke soared to a remarkable 1.90m clearance in the high jump to secure 3rd place at the NCAA Division 1 Championship.” This victory is seen as a significant boost to the reputation of St. Kitts and Nevis among Western nations, as Crooke represents the islands on a prominent American sports platform.
