St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Cadet Corps Celebrates Milestone Anniversary

The St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Cadet Corps has commemorated its 109th anniversary on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. This year’s observance was marked without a formal ceremony, with the organization choosing to share its milestone achievement through its official social media channels.

Established on June 2, 1917, the Cadet Corps stands as one of the longest-standing youth institutions in the twin-island federation. It holds the unique distinction of being the only youth organization in St. Kitts and Nevis legislated into law.

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

In a social media post detailing their 109-year legacy, the organization reiterated its enduring motto and vision. “Since 1917, the Cadet Corps has remained committed to developing young people through discipline, leadership, service, and national pride,” the post stated. “We continue to inspire youth ages 12 to 18 to challenge their limits, build confidence, develop life skills, and become responsible citizens dedicated to their country and community.”

The program emphasizes a comprehensive training process for every cadet, focusing on resilience, teamwork, and character building. These elements are designed to cultivate essential human values such as loyalty, integrity, respect, courage, and excellence, shaping cadets’ contributions to society.

Contributing to National Development

Over the past century, the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Cadet Corps has consistently focused on the development of the nation’s youth. This dedication extends to contributing to the overall growth and progress of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Illustrating the organization’s commitment to youth development and practical experience, Cadet Sergeant Huggins recently represented the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Cadet Corps at a sitting of the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA). This participation offered a valuable opportunity for a cadet to engage with governmental processes alongside members of the armed forces.

The Cadet Corps’ mandate extends beyond military-style training; it is dedicated to shaping each cadet into a well-rounded young leader. This approach is seen as crucial for fostering future nation-building efforts and encouraging robust civic engagement within the community.
