Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew led a special church service to commemorate the foundational figures of the Labour Movement. The gathering, attended by supporters, aimed to pay tribute to the individuals who laid the groundwork for both the nation and the political party.

Honoring the Nation’s Architects

During the service at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Prime Minister Drew emphasized the importance of recognizing those who have significantly contributed to the country’s development. He stated that the forefathers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party were instrumental in building the nation over many years, citing numerous significant advancements achieved under their leadership.

A Legacy of Progress

The Prime Minister highlighted the deep and long-standing history of the Labour Party, noting that its early pioneers began their work long before many current public figures entered political life. He asserted that these early leaders fought tirelessly for the rights, freedoms, and opportunities that citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis enjoy today. Their efforts were credited with bringing democracy to the island, improving educational opportunities, expanding healthcare access, strengthening workers’ rights, promoting land ownership, establishing social security, and guiding the nation towards independence.

Service and Sacrifice

Prime Minister Drew spoke about the struggles faced by the early leaders of the Labour Movement, stressing that their endeavors were never for personal gain but were driven by a fight for the dignity of the island’s people. He reflected on the legacy of these former leaders, stating that their lives serve as a reminder that progress is not accidental.

According to the Prime Minister, progress is the result of courage, sacrifice, conviction, and dedicated service. He concluded by asserting that the narrative of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party is intrinsically linked to the story of national development.
