St. Kitts and Nevis and Guyana signed three Memoranda of Understanding on April 8, 2026, to bolster bilateral ties in key sectors.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The agreements cover agriculture and food security, government modernization, and defense and security collaboration. These pacts aim to deliver both immediate and long-term benefits to citizens of both nations, building on shared history, regional unity, and strong people-to-people connections.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew announced plans for these MoUs during a press conference on March 30, emphasizing food security as a top priority for his visit to Guyana.
Agriculture and Food Security
One MoU focuses on boosting local food production and reducing reliance on imported goods amid global price surges and supply chain issues. Dr. Drew highlighted Guyana’s expanding agricultural sector as a prime opportunity for St. Kitts and Nevis.
“We are exploring technical assistance from Guyana to enhance our local output,” Dr. Drew stated.
Government Modernization and Security
Guyana pledged support to help St. Kitts and Nevis adopt technology for better governance, project management, and decision-making processes.
The third agreement strengthens defense and security cooperation between the two countries.
Global Biodiversity Alliance Membership
During the visit, Dr. Drew formalized St. Kitts and Nevis’s entry into the Global Biodiversity Alliance, an initiative led by Guyana’s President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The alliance works to protect biodiversity and advance sustainable development worldwide.
