Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew attended the funeral of former Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, delivering a heartfelt tribute alongside other Caribbean Community leaders.
Regional Delegation at Funeral
As the current chairperson of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. Drew traveled to Suriname with a delegation of CARICOM heads of state on April 7, 2026. The group participated in the funeral ceremony for the respected statesman, who played a key role in international cooperation.
Transformative Leadership Highlighted
In his remarks, Dr. Drew praised Santokhi’s transformative leadership and its lasting impact on the Caribbean region. He emphasized the former president’s efforts in strengthening regional cooperation, advancing priorities such as youth development, climate action, and private sector growth. Santokhi served as a dedicated champion for Caribbean unity.
