St. Kitts and Nevis inaugurated its first High Commission in India on April 7, 2026, in New Delhi. Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar attended as chief guest, joined by St. Kitts and Nevis Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, who led a delegation including Foreign Service Officer Jazzeé Connor.

Ceremony Highlights

The event featured a traditional lamp-lighting followed by a ribbon-cutting to officially open the mission. This milestone marks a strategic partnership between the two nations, focusing on tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges. The High Commission underscores 41 years of diplomatic relations and elevates ties from dialogue to actionable cooperation.

Key Addresses

Dr. Douglas described the occasion as historic, stating, “Since the beginning of modern diplomacy, the establishment of a resident diplomatic mission in another country has long been regarded as one of the most significant achievements in bilateral relations.” He emphasized the mission’s role in advancing sustainable development, investment, technology, education, renewable energy, and people-to-people connections.

Dr. Jaishankar reflected on over four decades of collaboration on mutual issues, reaffirming India’s commitment to capacity building and technological exchanges. Jazzeé Connor delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr. Jaishankar, the Indian government, and Dr. Douglas.

Regional Milestone

St. Kitts and Nevis becomes the first Eastern Caribbean nation with a resident diplomatic presence in India, guided by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew’s vision to expand global partnerships.

Bilateral Discussions

Prior to the ceremony, Dr. Douglas and Dr. Jaishankar held high-level talks at Hyderabad House. Topics included climate change, disaster preparedness, and relief efforts. India offered medical kits for aid, and leaders explored expanding St. Kitts and Nevis’ medical brigade. Conversations also covered geopolitical dynamics in Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, and the Middle East, alongside frameworks for economic development, health cooperation, digital capacities, and projects.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted delight in hosting Dr. Douglas and advancing joint initiatives.
