St. Kitts and Nevis sports legends Kim Collins and Keith ‘Kayamba’ Gumbs earn recognition as Outstanding Athletes of African Descent in the Hemisphere from the Organization of American States (OAS).

The honor comes during the Inter-American Week of People of African Descent, held in Washington, D.C., from March 23 to 27. The event wraps up with a photo exhibition at the Hall of the Americas on March 27, spotlighting the duo’s legacies and their impact on sports across the Americas through compelling visuals and stories.

Kim Collins: Sprinting Icon

Renowned sprinter Kim Collins captivates with his storied career. He claims gold in the 100-meter dash at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics and bronze in the 4×100-meter relay in 2011. Collins represents St. Kitts and Nevis at five Olympic Games from 1996 to 2016. At age 40, he runs a blistering 9.93 seconds, joining elite sprinters who break the 10-second barrier.

Keith Gumbs: Football Trailblazer

Football star Keith ‘Kayamba’ Gumbs shines for his leadership as former captain of the St. Kitts and Nevis national team, netting over 40 international goals. As a skilled center-forward, he forges a professional path across Europe, Asia, and Australia. Now 53, Gumbs continues as a player-coach in Australia, embodying dedication and excellence.

This accolade underscores the profound influence of athletes of African descent on the hemisphere’s sporting landscape.
