St. Kitts and Nevis has signed a landmark agreement with acclaimed Nollywood director Steve Gukas, founder of Natives Filmworks, to advance its creative economy.

Agreement Signed at Afri-Caribbean Summit

Minister of Creative Economy Samal Duggins finalized the pact on the opening day of the Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit in Abuja, Nigeria. This collaboration strengthens cultural and economic bonds between the two nations while fostering growth in the creative sector.

The deal paves the way for a major film production on the island, slated for June 2026. It also establishes a framework for training, mentorship, and partnerships within the global African creative community.

Opportunities for Local Talent and Regional Impact

Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis gain access to new opportunities in filmmaking through this initiative. Officials aim to produce 12 films across the region, offering a Caribbean lens on global African narratives.

At the signing ceremony, Minister Duggins emphasized the transformative power of the creative economy for the island nation and the broader region. He stressed the need to capture authentic stories that reflect the diversity and shared heritage of Afro-descendant communities.

“The Western Hemisphere as a whole, with all its different cultures and nuances, must be injected into these films to truly represent global Africa today,” Minister Duggins stated.
