Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew attended the opening of Training Course #47 for the St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force at the Police Academy. As Minister of National Security, he praised the new recruits—primarily young individuals—for committing to public service.
Balancing Recruitment and Empowering Youth
Addressing police members and recruits, Dr. Drew emphasized maintaining balance in hiring processes and increasing women’s representation in the force. He highlighted the significant number of young people opting for policing careers after completing their education, rather than other paths.
The Prime Minister expressed pride in their choice of public service over negative alternatives, affirming the government’s faith in the nation’s youth. Officials continue to provide essential support for young people to succeed in their professions.
Dr. Drew noted his discussions with the commission, stressing that proper implementation would attract more young men to contribute to national development. He celebrated the strong youth presence at the event, viewing it as a powerful signal that St. Kitts and Nevis youth are selecting positive life trajectories.
Call to Avoid Crime and Gangs
Urging young people nationwide to shun gang culture and criminal activities, Dr. Drew encouraged pursuit of uplifting paths. Police Command Officers also offered their best wishes to the new trainees embarking on this program.
