Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew of St. Kitts and Nevis toured the USS San Antonio, a U.S. Navy amphibious transport dock ship, during its docking at Port Zante. The visit underscores the robust diplomatic relations between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States.

Key Participants and Activities

Dr. Drew was joined by Karin Sullivan, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Barbados. The pair met with the ship’s crew to discuss its mission, operational capacity, and advanced capabilities.

Government officials released images from the tour on official social media channels. Dr. Drew described the vessel as impressive and emphasized that the visit demonstrates the strong partnership between the two nations.

Ship Capabilities Highlighted

The USS San Antonio supports modern military operations by transporting Marines, aircraft, and heavy equipment. During the tour, officials spotlighted its enhanced aviation facilities, including a hangar for various helicopters and the MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft.

The flight deck accommodates Marine Corps air assets, while the well deck enables launch and recovery of air cushion landing craft (LCACs). These crafts facilitate rapid transport of cargo, vehicles, and supplies.

Strengthening Regional Ties

U.S. Embassy officials in Barbados note that the ship’s stop in St. Kitts and Nevis affirms enduring connections. Such engagements play a vital role in bolstering cooperation between the Caribbean region and the United States.
