The Basseterre Desalination Plant, with a capacity of 2 million gallons, has completed construction and stands ready for commissioning next week. This facility promises to deliver reliable water to the island’s residents.

Commissioning Ceremony Details

The Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities and Domestic Transport will lead the commissioning event on February 24 at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Park. Government officials and ministry representatives will attend as the plant transitions from testing to full operations.

Enhanced Water Supply and Safety Measures

Once operational, the plant will provide Basseterre and nearby communities with round-the-clock water access. Officials confirm the facility endured weeks of rigorous testing to guarantee safe drinking water for all users.

Safety remains a core priority, underscoring the administration’s commitment to public well-being.

Boost to National Water Security

This development addresses longstanding water shortages across the nation, marking a significant milestone in infrastructure improvement. Community members welcome the upgrade with enthusiasm.

Minister Konris Maynard highlighted the plant as a vital investment in the country’s infrastructure. The project progressed over several months, with regular updates from the ministry.

Key technical support comes from Royal Utilities Ltd., while funding originates from the Republic of China (Taiwan).
