The authorities have launched particulars of a big scale joint operation at His Majesty’s Jail in Basseterre, performed on Tuesday (July 9), that led to the seizure of a major amount of contraband objects.

Police issued a press assertion earlier this afternoon (Jul. 10) addressing the raid. Initially, police withheld official info from the media till the operation was concluded, citing safety considerations.

The coordinated raid occurred between 4:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and concerned a number of nationwide safety companies. Collaborating companies included the RSCNPF’s Particular Companies Unit (SSU), Anti-Narcotics Unit, and Joint Safety Operations Tactical Staff (JSOTT); the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Power Infantry; Customs and Excise officers; and members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Jail Service.

The nationwide safety companies concerned acquired technical help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Regional Safety System (RSS).

The search of the jail compound resulted within the confiscation of 15 mobile telephones, a amount of marijuana, a number of improvised weapons (shanks), cigarettes and tobacco, lighters, containers of fermented liquor and a variety of different prohibited objects.
